New liver, new lease on life

2010 saw liver recipient Alan McLellan go from a state of despair to euphoria over the space of a couple of months.

In 1998 he was diagnosed with Primary Billary Cirrhosis. This, he describes, was a "big shock to a man who prided himself in being fit and healthy". "Running and cycling had replaced my representative rugby activity. It took a lot to come to grips with this news although I was fortunate that the disease didn't have too much effect on me until a couple of years ago," says Alan.
